Vinha Álvares Pimentel

Located in the heart of the historic vineyards of Lajido da Criação Velha, Vinha Álvares Pimentel is a family property dedicated to vineyards and wine and the history of winemaking on the island of Pico and the Azores.

 

It all started on January 8th 2016, the day of the vineyard purchase deed, when it was decided to acquire a small property with 0.24 hectares in Lajido da Criação Velha to build this family project.

 

The Álvares Pi Vineyard mentality is the combination of two passions, vineyard and nature, which are evident to everyone who visits us.

 

The Álvares Pimentel Vineyard, in the vineyard landscape of Lajido da Criação Velha, invites everyone to an unforgettable outdoor experience in the middle of the vineyards, allowing a close relationship with nature and combining its magnificent wines with the most traditional flavors of the island of Pico.

Tour through the Vineyard

A member of the family takes visitors on a tour of the Vineyard, explaining the Geology, the History of viticulture on the island of Pico, providing an opportunity to view the indigenous grape varieties Arinto dos Açores, Verdelho and Terrantez do Pico, and the unique characteristics of their terrain.

Visit to Casa de Abrigo

Visitors are taken to the Casa de Abrigo where the winemaking process is explained, from harvesting the grapes to bottling the wine.

Tasting Picnic

Visitors have the opportunity to taste a selection of wines produced at Vinha Álvares Pimentel accompanied by delicacies from the island of Pico.

“.Our wine tasting tour including sunset picnic in the private vineyard with view to the Pico was just amazing! We are very grateful for having the chance to speak to a local wine maker from the Island and to see the result of the hard work and the effort, which is necessary to grow all the plants due to the strong conditions there. We enjoyed our picnic under a beautiful olive tree while sunset very much. It was almost magical. The special cheese from Pico, the corn bread, the home made Fig-Jam and of course the exquisite wine from the vineyard were fantastic. We had such a great time there and the owners are so lovely! The most unique experience we were able to make on Pico Island. You don‘t want to miss this!
